Character & Our Students
Students Making a Difference
Our 6th-grade students exemplify the core value of empathy, an integral part of our PRIDE framework, through their Blessing Bags project for unhoused individuals. By organizing and collecting essential items such as toiletries, snacks, and winter accessories, these students demonstrate compassion and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by others in our community. This initiative not only fosters a sense of responsibility and determination but also strengthens the bond between students and their community, showcasing how acts of kindness can create a meaningful impact.
At Harmony School of Innovation, we've established a Youth Character Committee, open to students from all grade levels, either through self-selection or teacher nominations. The purpose of the committee is to strengthen the connection between students and adults on campus, ensuring that our core values—PRIDE (Perseverance, Responsibility, Integrity, Determination, and Empathy)—are reflected in every part of the school experience. We are committed to growing together as one unified team. Additionally, we focus on using student-friendly language and developing SEL objectives that are relatable and easy for students to engage with.
Our vibrant cultural celebrations - from AAPI Heritage Month to Black History Month and Hispanic Heritage Month - exemplify our students' commitment to sharing their diverse backgrounds with our school community. These student-led programs demonstrate responsibility as our learners take ownership of planning, organizing, and presenting their rich cultural traditions. Through music, dance, art, and storytelling, performers show remarkable perseverance as they step onto the stage to proudly represent their heritage in front of their peers. These celebrations foster empathy across our school community, creating deeper understanding and appreciation of the diverse experiences that make HSI unique. Each program serves as a powerful reminder of how our differences strengthen our community.
At HSI, we celebrate student self-expression through creative displays that reflect not only our core values, but students' sense of self. Our hallways come alive with student artwork that showcases not only their artistic talents, but also their understanding of important character traits like empathy, perseverance, and bravery. Through these visual expressions, our students explore and interpret values that shape our school community while developing their unique creative voices.
Our fall athletes demonstrate the true spirit of HSI both on and off the field or court. Whether sprinting toward personal bests in cross country, strategizing on the flag football field, or rallying together in volleyball, our student-athletes exemplify perseverance through rigorous practices and challenging competitions. Through countless hours of practice, unwavering focus, and a relentless drive to improve, our volleyball team displayed remarkable determination in earning their spot in the playoffs. Beyond individual achievements, they show responsibility by balancing academic commitments with athletic dedication, and demonstrate integrity through sportsmanship in both victory and defeat. These valuable lessons learned through sports help shape not just skilled athletes, but well-rounded individuals who understand the power of teamwork and determination.
